SECONDARY SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
SUMMARY OF POSITION: A caring, certified special education teacher who will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing standards aligned instructional programs in a learning environment that helps special education students develop to their full academic potential.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
COMPENSATION: Per the RFT Master Agreement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must have a valid 7-12 teaching certificate with a certification to teach Secondary Special Education for the state of Michigan (or be able to obtain temporary approval).
2. Multiple teaching endorsements preferred
3. Must have an in-depth understanding of special education students, current special education law, and the IEP process.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Responsible for planning and delivering instructional services that meet the educational goals and needs of special education students as determined by their IEP assigned to their caseload.
2. Responsible for timely coordination and monitoring of student initial, current, and reevaluation IEP meetings, including goals and objectives as well as classroom accommodations.
3. Ability to inform and work cooperatively with general education teachers, counselors, and administration.
4. Shall have a strong understanding of how to differentiate and individualize instruction, including positive behavior interventions and supports.
5. Ability to explain different disabilities and their impact on learning and serve as a resource for staff.
6. Ability to observe and assess a student’s needs.
7. Ability to keep all student and parent information confidential.
8. Ability to keep a positive attitude in working with students, parents, other staff members, and community members who visit Carrollton Public School facilities and programs.
9. Must be self-directed and self-motivated
10. Must be highly organized and able to multitask.
11. Display a high level of proficiency in Google Programs including Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Classroom, as well as Microsoft Office.
12. Serve as a member of a positive behavior support team as needed.
13. Shall be of good character with high moral and ethical values.
14. Work to ensure a safe environment for students at all times.
15. Attend conferences, workshops, and professional development as requested.
16. Meet and greet visitors in a positive, helpful manner.
17. Other duties as assigned by the building principal/supervisor.
