TRANSPORTATION SUPERVISOR
PRIMARY ROLE: Responsible for supervising all student transportation programs to enable each student, through safe and efficient transportation, to take full advantage of instructional opportunities. This position will have a primary emphasis on routing and dispatch.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school graduate at minimum.
2. Experience in school bus transportation or related field.
3. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
4. Highly organized and capable of performing multiple tasks simultaneously.
5. Experience in route scheduling and computerized routing.
6. Excellent conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
7. Ability to function under time constraints in a complicated and fast-paced environment.
8. Ability to cope with conflict while maintaining an even temperament, patience and consideration.
9. Meet and maintain Michigan School Bus Driver qualification and licenses.
10. Physically capable of lifting and balancing 40-60 pounds to assist students with special needs in a variety of emergency situations.
11. Must pass criminal background check as required by School Safety Legislation.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Meet and maintain Michigan Department of Education Transportation Supervisor Certification.
2. Meet and maintain required Drug and Alcohol Reasonable Suspicion Supervisor training as required by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
3. Demonstrate the ability to direct workforce with consistent application of work rules as required by Laws, Regulations, Employee Contracts, Procedure Manuals and Board Policy.
4. Strong computer skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES SHALL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
1. Supervise and instruct transportation employees in day-to-day operations. All aspects of management and supervision will be required.
2. Recruit, select, instruct, evaluate and supervise personnel.
3. Develop and train transportation personnel on procedures required by Laws and Regulations, Employee Contracts, Procedure Manuals and Board Policy.
4. Assign transportation staff including substitutes and acquaint bus staff with routes.
5. Monitor radio and appropriately respond to all calls
7. Check bus stops to ensure they meet all laws.
8. Meet with instructional staff and administrators to coordinate activities with the schools so as to best meet the needs of students and the school district.
9. Participate as the department’s representative at I.E.P.C. meetings, student staffing meetings, consultations with professional staff and other meetings.
10. Receive and appropriately respond to parent inquiries and concerns regarding the Transportation Department. Provide appropriate and timely communication regarding schedule modification and travel emergencies.
11. Process and check timesheets.
12. Establish and promote positive work relationships with union officials.
13. Understand and administrate Laws as they apply to FMCSA and Board of Education Policies as related to regulated and non-regulated drug testing.
14. Have knowledge of Michigan Vehicle Code, PA187, and School Code.
15. Perform other duties as necessary for the operation of the program and/or services and additional duties as assigned by Director or other administrator.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES INCLUDE:
1. Attend meetings of transportation organizations.
2. Complete reports as required by Transportation Supervisor.
3. Respond to student and staff emergencies.
4. Respond to emergency crashes to assist students, staff and law enforcement.
6. Be “on call” for emergencies.
7. Perform other related duties as assigned.
